What are Skin Tags?
Because of its unpleasant appearance, you may want to have your skin tags removed at once. But before you take any actions to get rid of them, it is important to understand what are skin tags.
Skin tags are small growths of skin that commonly appear on areas where the skin’s surface are exposed to friction such as the neck, eyelids, armpit, and groin. Too much rubbing of skin may cause the development of these barnacles. They are usually flesh-colored skin that does not grow to more than an inch. Since it is normal for skin tags to protrude on our skin, there is no way to minimize the possibility of acquiring them. However, there are ways to prevent them from appearing on your body in your early years, and the process is by knowing the causes why people develop skin tags. Persons who are susceptible to catch skin tags are those who are unhygienic, pregnant, and obese, as well as those with acromegaly and hormonal syndrome. Given that people who are obese and unhygienic are more prone to acquire skin tags, they can prevent the development of these barnacles by changing their unhealthy habits.
Although most of them are non-cancerous, sometimes physicians would require samples for cancer testing as there are cases that skin tags may grow to become malignant. Skin tags can be removed through a surgical operation, a home remedy treatment or an OTC medicine. These removal procedures are inexpensive and are effective in removing skin tags in less than a month. Granting that there are effective home remedies and over-the-counter medicines to remove them, it is still best to have a dermatologist diagnose them as other skin problems mimic the appearance of skin tags.
